“As people consume the commodities or image-objects of the spectacle they become part of the spectacle, making rebellion against it hard. Even the most radical gesture gets recuperated into the spectacle and turned into a commodity, negating its subversive meaning - ‘It is a question not of elaborating the spectacle of refusal, but rather of refusing the spectacle’. Everything becomes a commodity, even TV, radio, the internet, books, ideas, thoughts, desires, stamps and limited edition prints. “Rebellion” is sold back to us as an image that pacifies us.” - The PMG.... as copied from something on the web.
Rather than continue being complicit in the arrangement of selling rebel chic lifestyle consumables to you, the Child Labour Force, The Management and The Artists of the CNPD are now on strike until further notice.
The PMG explains:
“Good art is always (or should be) critical of it’s own process and function. In today’s booming limited edition market there seems to be little assessment or critique beyond the image on the paper, canvas etc. The “commodity value” and what it represents as investment or lifestyle ‘cool’ is in danger of usurping content as the currency of exchange. We of course also need this exchange to keep us in fast cars and fine wines, and we applaud it’s popular appeal. But the children are complaining that it’s starting to feel hollow and are refusing to help us any more.”
The CNPD will now enter a period of relaxation and reassessment whilst negotiations take place with the children.
THIS STRIKE ENDED IN JULY 2007 and since then a full report has not been made by the PMG and the DOA Directive has been initiated. |
